Classic fighting games like Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and Red Earth are included in Capcom Fighting Collection.
Capcom has grown into a major force in the fighting game industry in the three decades since the 1987 arcade release of the original Street Fighter. The Japanese company has established itself as a fighting game behemoth thanks to the success of classic series like Street Fighter and the collaboration with one of the world’s largest publishers in Marvel vs. Capcom. Capcom has recently revealed Capcom Fighting Collection as a tribute to many of the company’s lesser-known properties, which will celebrate Street Fighter’s 35th anniversary in 2022. The Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom series are not the only classic fighting games that Capcom has created throughout the years. It’s hard to imagine a more spooky Capcom series than the gothic horror of Darkstalkers, which hit arcades and home systems around the same time as the more obscure Red Earth in the late 1990s. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Capcom’s legendary Street Fighter series, and to mark the occasion, the company has released a collection of Street Fighter and other fighting games, some of which are being released for the first time in the West.
The Street Fighter 6 reveal was delayed by fighting game legend Daigo.
Capcom’s official YouTube channel unveiled the Capcom Fighting Collection Monday morning, which includes eleven games from the Street Fighter and Darkstalkers series, as well as Red Earth. Street Fighter 2’s spinoffs, such as Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo and Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors, will be included in the collection. Vampire Hunter 2: Darkstalkers’ Revenge and Vampire Savior 2: The Lord of Vampire, both arcade games previously exclusive to Japan, will have a Western release for the first time as part of the collection. Capcom has made a number of announcements related to the Capcom Fighting Selection’s collection of games. Along with basic in-game settings such as saving in mid-game and having access to “EX Settings,” the game will have a gallery with official art and design materials for all ten games. When the collection is released on June 24, Capcom will also emphasise that the fighting games will all have rollback netcode for online play, as well as Ranked and Casual lobbies, respectively. Capcom Fighting Collection will be the first new release for several of the series covered in the compilation for several years. Resurrection of Darkstalkers in 2013 was the last new Darkstalkers game, while Red Earth has never been released beyond its original arcade form. Capcom Fighting Collection will be a tribute to Capcom’s heritage as Street Fighter looks to the future.
