Complaints about harassment in the media and on social media have prompted the company to add a new feature to its app.

“I was verbally and sexually harassed within 60 seconds of joining,” a user wrote in a blog post about her experience. In the blink of an eye, I was sucked into a terrifying situation that occurred before I had a chance to put up the safety barrier. I screamed,’ she said, her voice cracking.

Users can still give each other high fives or bump fists despite the boundary function being enabled by default, according to Sharma.

Facebook’s Metaverse Creates ‘Personal Bubble’

If an avatar tries to inappropriately touch another virtual character, Horizon will make its hands disappear, according to the game’s creator.

For the first time in December, Meta’s Horizon Worlds virtual reality platform was made available to the general public in North America. Last year, Mark Zuckerberg was spotted wearing virtual reality goggles. At the end of last year, Meta made Horizon Worlds, its virtual reality platform, available to the American public.

Last year, Facebook changed its name to Meta from Facebook in an effort to move away from its image as a scandal-plagued social network and toward its long-term goal of creating a virtual universe that blends the physical and digital worlds. The social media giant’s critics, however, fear some of the mass phenomena observed online, such as harassment or misinformation, will be replicated in the ultra-immersive virtual reality world.

A fully realised metaverse will take years of work and significant technological advancements, even Meta admits. As long as you’re at least 18 years old and have the proper headset and equipment to join in a virtual world with friends or strangers, you’ll be able to do just that on Horizon.

Reports of Rampant Harassment and Virtual Groping

According to Sharma, the new safety feature is an important first step, but there is still much work to be done.

Meta’s stock closed Friday at $237.09, unchanged from the previous day but down 20% from the beginning of the week.It was a roughly even  day for Meta’s stock price on Friday, but it was down by 20 percent from where it started out the week at $237.09. He went on to say that one possibility being considered is allowing individuals to set their own personal boundary distances.

After a terrible week for Meta stock, which saw its worst-ever trading session on Thursday, the company has announced a new feature.

Shares of Facebook plunged 27% in a single day after the company reported its first ever decline in daily active users, wiping out some $237 billion from the company’s market value. During the sell-off, Mark Zuckerberg, who owns about 12 percent of the company, saw his net worth fall by about $30 billion, and he dropped off Forbes’ list of the world’s 10 richest people.
