- The Guardians of the Galaxy video game underperformed in its debut sales, according to a Square Enix quarterly report.
In 2021, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was a surprise hit. Following its release, the game gained critical acclaim for its single-player storyline and the storey of Peter Quill becoming the head of the popular space-faring group. Even at the 2021 Game Awards, it was awarded the best narrative prize for the first time in its history. Few expected the game to be as well-received as it was, making it something of a dark horse for the year 2021. Only a few people expected Eidos Montreal and Square Enix to fully flip the script and deliver a truly successful title the year after Marvel’s Avengers was released. When it was released earlier this year, gamers were quick to declare the game an instant hit. It presently has a “overwhelmingly favourable” number of reviews on Steam. It appears, though, that even Square Enix was surprised by the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, and that the game’s critical acclaim may have been a fluke.

Guardians of the Galaxy publisher Square Enix alleges that the game underperformed in its launch sales, according to a recent quarterly earnings report. “The game’s sales on launch exceeded our early estimates,” the business stated in its annual report. Despite this, sales of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy have risen steadily since November 2021. This is most likely due to the positive public response to the film.

Square Enix expects this upward trend in sales to continue through the end of 2022. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is selling well even now, which is not surprising given the company’s track record of attracting new players to its games. Single-player games like Marvel’s Spider-Man still have a vibrant online community of gamers who are still having a good time with the 2018 game. Since Marvel’s Avengers flopped, Square Enix is aiming to make up for it with good sales of the new Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s incredible to see how far Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has gone despite the scepticism surrounding the game’s launch. Many fans are already looking forward to the next Guardians of the Galaxy projects and even looking back into the past of the iconic comic book team, but it is unsure whether its sales will continue to improve Square Enix’s money
