On February 5, 2022, Abhijeet and Sansrati became the first Indian couple to get married in a 3D Metaverse. On the Yug Metaverse, the wedding was held (made in India metaverse platform). For ITC Ltd. and Matrimony.com, the association was conceptualised, organised and executed by the media agency Wavemaker India.
This is how India’s first Metaverse wedding was executed, with 500 guests and two brand associations.
On a beautiful beach, the couple’s digital avatars had their wedding ceremony, which was also attended by their virtual guests. From 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on February 5, 2022, the wedding took place, coinciding with the actual event in Bhopal itself.

Matrimony site Abhijeet Goel and Dr. Sansrati of Bhopal met through the internet. Because of this, they came up with the idea of getting married on a virtual platform so that their friends and family from all over the world could be a part of their big day without sacrificing the safety of their guests.

India’s first Metaverse wedding

To put it another way, “Metaverse” is still a new concept and its worldwide adoption is in its infancy, says Yug Metaverse creator Utkarsh Shukla. A Metaverse Platform, YUG, was built in India in order for India to take the lead in this technological revolution. It’s exciting for the team to see what the future holds for emerging technologies like the metaverse, blockchain, and cryptocurrency”

While working with ITC Ltd. and Matrimony.com to create this groundbreaking 3D wedding on the Metaverse platform, Wavemaker was instrumental in forming partnerships with both companies as part of GroupM.

Wavemaker CEO Ajay Gupte, who spoke at this industry-first event, said, “Marketing on the Metaverse platform is the next wave in digital marketing. It has always been a goal of ours at Wavemaker to inspire our clients while also delivering work that is first in its field. We have assembled a team of experts to assist our clients in navigating the metaverse and finding the right fit to participate in metaverse-related events. There is still a lot of room for us to shape the platform that we believe in in the Metaverse. Consumers are going to love this, and we can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Two Brand Associations

As a company, Matrimony.com has been at the forefront of providing rich and transformative experiences for customers in the real world, through constant innovation over the last 22 years,” said Arjun Bhatia, Matrimony.com’s Chief Marketing Officer. An exciting virtual world wedding experiment awaits us at YUG metaverse, and we’re looking forward to working with you on it.

In the Metaverse, people can enter the digital world by using a virtual identity to access the world of virtual reality. People can also socialise, shop, and make new friends in this virtual setting.

As a gifting partner for this epic event, Fabelle, the premium luxury chocolate brand from the house of ITC, participated. Our luxury chocolates are designed to make any occasion or experience truly unforgettable,” Fabelle says. Consumers’ digital experiences will be upgraded with Metaverse. Anuj Kumar Rustagi, COO Chocolates, Confectionery, Coffee & New Businesses, ITC Ltd Foods Division, said, “Fabelle is pleased to be a part of this pathbreaking wedding concept in the Yug metaverse and making the milestone memorable for the couple.”

Sansrati and Abhijeet set up a beautiful beachside wedding venue that could be accessed via the Yug platform. More than 500 people registered to attend the wedding. Attendees were able to change their avatars, walk around the event, and even take to the dance floor in virtual reality.

An immersive 3D experience, similar to that of the real world, is what metaverses like Yug represent as a natural progression from the current 2D internet.” As it continues to develop, the line between the real world and the virtual one becomes increasingly hazy. Open source, Yug lets users create and participate in a wide range of events and activities such as marriage ceremonies, exhibitions and hangouts with friends as well as business meetings and conferences. To us, decentralisation will revolutionise a wide range of industries, including education, commerce, and entertainment. Yug’s Shashank said as much.
