Although many gamers were sceptical about how well the first Sonic movie would do, it turned out to be so successful that two sequels and a spin-off series were approved shortly after. The promos for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, as the movie is aptly titled, have delighted fans to the point of bursting with anticipation. However, the introduction of Knuckles has left fans wondering how much attention Tails would receive in the film, but a recent interview guarantees that Sonic 2 will get its due. In the first Sonic movie, the blue blur was from another universe and was left alone on Earth, which was a more conventional approach to a CGI and live action picture. To keep things grounded in reality, the film only had a limited amount of time in which to appropriately reference previous Sonic films. There will be no straight copying of the games for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

During an interview with IGN, the game’s director, Jeff Fowler, was asked if fans should expect to see recognisable places from Sonic 2 and 3. He said, “Oh, absolutely, all kinds,” before going on to say that the Tornado is a famous Sonic 2 reference and that previews have already shown that it has a part in the movie.

“The filmmakers were ecstatic when thinking about what to include from Sonic 1 and its sequel,” says Fowler. “They were ecstatic.” Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 fans wanted a “true cinematic version of the stuff they loved,” so this seems promising. Fans of the series may feel more at peace about Tails’ position in the movie as a result of this information. Even while admirers of the two-tailed fox will have to wait for the film’s premiere, there may be more pleasant surprises in store. “A terrific problem that there are so many great Easter eggs to incorporate,” says director Jeff Fowler in an interview with IGN’s Jeff Fowler. “The movie is chock-full of them,” he adds.

Easter eggs from the Master Emerald:

Sonic and Knuckles’ conflict in Sonic 3’s opening, as well as the skyscraper-jumping sequence at night that resembled the initial cinematic from the original Sonic Adventure have already been revealed in the videos that have been released so far. In the trailers, Sonic Adventure 2 GUN logos can be found. What we’ve seen so far and what Fowler has said give fans hope that the film will be everything they’ve come to expect from the Sonic movies.
