Despite a 40-minute long Nintendo Direct dishing out new game announcements, those hoping to hear about Metroid Prime 4 or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will have to wait a little longer. Sports fans will have two things to look forward to later this spring in addition to the prizes won by Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Fire Emblem fans.

With Polygon’s StoryStream, we’ve consolidated all of our breaking news coverage. However, if you’re only interested in the trailers and the highlights from Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct, here are the top 11 announcements.

XENOBLADE CHRONICLES 3 is scheduled to release in September of this year

Monolith Soft has announced a fall 2018 release date for Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the follow-up to 2017’s open-world RPG Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The worlds of Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be shown in this storey. Giant war machines crisscross the vast, war-torn landscape.

THIS SUMMER, SPLATOON 3 IS COMING

Splatoon 3 received a release date and a two-minute trailer on Wednesday, exactly one year after it was first announced at the February 2021 Nintendo Direct. Sorry, I can’t give you a more precise arrival date than this summer. Splatoon 2’s fan-favorite Salmon Run mode has been resurrected as Salmon Run Next Wave, though.

NINTENDO SWITCH WILL GET A WII SPORTS SEQUEL

After the hugely successful Wii Sports series launched, Nintendo Switch Sports is set to launch on April 29th with a beta test later in the month. Tennis, soccer, badminton, and volleyball are all represented in the anthology, as is a new variation of bowling called Survival Bowling. Your Tuesday league sounds like Lord of the Flies meets.

JUNE 10: MARIO STRIKERS: BATTLE LEAGUE STARTS

In June, Nintendo’s Mario sports subgenre will return with Mario Strikers: Battle League on the Nintendo Switch. The five-on-five soccer variation emphasises goal-scoring and heavy action with a wide variety of special moves and power-ups. That was 15 years ago, in 2007, with the release of Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii.

Nintendo Switch will not be receiving any of the stars in the sky

Hello Games’ six-year-old space exploration/survival epic will be released on Nintendo Switch this summer. Five years of gameplay updates for PlayStation, PC, and Xbox will be included in the No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch Edition. Four major updates were released by Hello in 2021, including Frontiers, Prisms, Expeditions, and Companions.

THREE HOPE FOR FIRE EMBLEM WARRIORS IN JUNE

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, the tactical RPG sequel to 2019’s Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Houses, tells a new storey set in the same universe as its predecessor, with some familiar faces making appearances. Houses’ Byleth, Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude all appear in this musou game.

RENEWAL CAMP FOR ADVANCED WARS 1+2 BEGINS IN APRIL.

It will be released on April 8 for the first two Advance War games for the Game Boy Advance. All of the game’s commanding officers now have their own voiceover lines, as well as a custom map generator and the ability to re-do bad turns. Multiplayer options include both in-person and remote options.

“MOUTHFUL MODE” IS THE STAR OF THE NEW KIRBY MOVIE TRAILER

The Switch’s next big release, Kirby’s New Adventure, will arrive on March 25th. It was shown in a new trailer that Kirby can eat a car and a vending machine, showing his even more voracious appetite.

A SWITCH port of Portal and Portal 2.

It’s been nearly a decade since the release of Portal 2, which was released 15 years ago. The Portal: Companion Collection, which will be released later this year, includes both characters. In Portal 2, players will be able to multilayer locally, online, and even in split-screen mode. There was no word on when or how much this would cost.

MARIO KART 8 DELUXE IS GETTING DLC THROUGH THE YEAR 2023.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass includes 48 new courses for Mario Kart 8, which will be released in six batches of eight maps each from March 18 through the end of 2023. N64 Choco Mountain, Tour Tokyo Blur and five other games will be part of the first wave. Tracks from Super Mario Kart, Super Circuit, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart: Double Dash DS, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart 7, and the Mario Kart Tour are included in the rest of the Booster Course Pass.

TO MAKE IT EASIER, METROID DREAD FREE UPDATE HAS DELIVERED

At the end of the day, we learned absolutely nothing new about Metroid Prime 4. Instead, a free update for the 2D side-scroller Metroid Dread, which launched in October, will be available later on Wednesday. To help those who find Metroid Dread too difficult, the game will feature a Rookie Mode and a one-hit-kill Dread Mode.
