According to Nintendo, the metaverse isn’t something the company plans to pursue in the near-term.

NFTs and the metaverse were brought up during a recent earnings Q&A, and Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said this: “The metaverse has captured the attention of many companies around the world, and it has great potential.”

Pursue The Metaverse Anytime

It’s clear that Furukawa admires the concept, but he went on to say that the company couldn’t see a current use for Nintendo: “As of right now, it’s impossible to say exactly what kinds of delights and surprises our users can expect from the metaverse. Our primary focus as an entertainment company is on finding new and exciting ways to delight our customers.”

Collectible Vehicles of the Near Future

It seems that Nintendo would not want to jump on the metaverse bandwagon unless it had a truly novel and entertaining way of doing so: in the style of the company. “”We might consider something if we can convey a ‘Nintendo approach’ to the metaverse that many people can readily understand, but we do not think that is the situation at the present time.””

If you’ve been on the internet recently, you’ve probably heard a lot about the metaverse. Facebook has been at the centre of this new pivot to the metaverse, rebranding its entire organisation as ‘Meta’. You’re still unsure of what the metaverse is? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. To put it another way, the core idea of a metaverse is a persistent virtual world in which multiple online service providers and brand names are all housed under one virtual roof.

In the wake of Bandai Namco’s $130 million investment in its own “IP Metaverse,” Nintendo has taken a stance of its own. Unreal Engine will host an NFT metaverse created by Krafton, the company behind the original battle royale smash hit, PUBG.
